State Elections

Three proposed state constitutional amendments will be on the ballot. For an explanation of each question, please follow the links below:

Question 1: Should the Constitution of Virginia be amended to (i) protect the freedom to make personal decisions about prenatal care, childbirth, postpartum care, birth control, abortion, miscarriage management, and fertility care; (ii) protect doctors, nurses, and patients from being punished for these decisions; and (iii) allow for restrictions on access to abortion during the third trimester of pregnancy except when the patient's health is at risk or the pregnancy cannot survive?
Question 2: Should the Constitution of Virginia be amended to (i) remove the ban on same-sex marriage; (ii) affirm that two adults may marry regardless of sex, gender, or race; and (iii) require all legally valid marriages to be treated equally under the law?
Question 3: Should the Constitution of Virginia be amended (i) to provide for the fundamental right to vote in the Commonwealth, (ii) to revise the qualifications of voters so that a person convicted of a felony is not entitled to vote during his period of incarceration but is automatically invested with the right to vote upon release from incarceration, and (iii) to update the existing prohibition on voting by persons found to be mentally incompetent to instead apply to persons who have been found to lack the capacity to understand the act of voting?

Dates & Deadlines

Voter registration deadline: Oct. 23, 2026 (by close of business*)
Vote by mail application deadline: Oct. 23, 2026 (5 p.m.)
Last day for in-person early voting: Oct. 31, 2026 (5 p.m.)
Return mail-in ballots in person: Must be received by 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026
Return mail-in ballots by mail: Must be received by noon, Friday, Nov. 6, 2026

A drop box located in the parking lot of 500 Studio Drive, under 24-hour surveillance, is available for depositing your voted ballot, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week until 7 p.m. on Election Day.

All polling locations will serve as ballot drop-off locations during hours of voting, including Election Day.

In-Person Early Voting Schedule**

Early voting will take place at the Voter Registration & Elections Building located at 500 Studio Drive, Monday-Friday and select weekend dates.

Monday - Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. beginning Friday, Sept. 18
Saturdays, Oct. 24 and 31, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
Sundays, Oct. 18 and 25, 11 a.m.-4 p.m.

* Voter registration deadline is 5 p.m. at Voter Registration & Elections and DMV, 6 p.m. at the area libraries, 8 p.m. at the Central Library and 11:59 p.m. online at Elections.Virginia.gov.

** In-person voting begins 45 days before the election or as soon as possible after the issuance of the writ for a special election.
